Background

TACACS+ is a Cisco™ protocol for authentication, authorization, and accounting. TACACS (Terminal Access Controller Access Control System) has enjoyed three versions, TACACS, XTACACS, and the lastest version TACACS+.

While the TACACS+ protocol has largely been replaced by the RADIUS protocol there are still systems that require this somewhat dated service.
